What’s In A Label?

Who is Anne Marie and why are her labels in all of our garments?
I could use this space to tell the story of my dear sister’s darling granddaughter whose name is Anne Marie. It would start ”Once upon a time” and end with her growing up to become a famous designer and having her own design house, the House of Anne Marie. It would be a classic American tale of rags to riches in the garment industry. And it would be a lie. Sure, my sister does have her Anne Marie, and she is no doubt a little darling, but I suspect she is destined to be more of a consumer than creator of clothing.
So why is there an Anne Marie label in all of the clothing which we manufacture? For many years, our company sewed for many better quality companies, most of which have now passed from existence. One, Anne Marie Inc., made ridiculously overpriced novelty clothing that was all the rage, for a few years. In their latter years, their proverbial left hand knew so little about what the right hand was up to, that it bought 50,000 labels just before they both went bankrupt. I bought all of their assets in order to get all of their overpriced fabric at a bargain, and inherited their 50,000 labels. With about 15,000 still unused, it will be a few years before I have to buy Pumpkin Creek or Red Hattitude labels.
I share this with you because the question about our label has been asked a lot. I also want you to know that saving 7-8 cents on each label is the kind of thing that allows us to offer high quality clothing at low prices. And it’s all made right here in the USA.
